About Martin Berg
Martin Berg’s career has been spent in the world of nonprofit communications, where precision of expression is vital for conveying an image of seriousness and competence. He has over 30 years of nonprofit public relations/marketing/editing experience, including for the PR department of a Chicago hospital; as director of a Chicago neighborhood chamber of commerce; director of communications, member services and retail development for the Chicago Association of Neighborhood Development Organizations (CANDO); and Director of Marketing and Communications for Community Investment Corporation, a nonprofit lender for affordable Chicago apartment buildings with a $500 million lending pool.
Since 2003 he has been an Adjunct Instructor in Nonprofit Marketing for the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Certificate in Nonprofit Management program, which serves students all over the world. Students have taken his online class from many countries, including Senegal, Moldova, India, Turkey, Barbados, Dubai, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Jamaica, Germany, Brunei and Russia, as well as many states in the US.
Throughout his career he has been a freelance professional copy editor.
Martin received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Saint Louis University and pursued a Master of Social Work degree at the Jane Addams Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is a professional member of the Independent Writers of Chicago, the Chicago News Guild/CWA Local 34071, and is a life member of the Publicity Club of Chicago.
